Tonto National Monument is located in the Upper Sonoran Desert, which can vary in temperatures throughout the seasons. Weather during the summer can reach extreme high temperatures over 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures at Tonto are generally 10 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the Phoenix area. Winter temperatures bring a chill to the park, with the occassional drop below freezing. Weather in the winter season may create hazardous conditions on the road to Tonto National Monument.
