Park Roads

The road surfaces into and throughout Valles Caldera are gravel and dirt. As such, keep the following in mind.

• Roads often have ruts and potholes.
• Please use caution and drive slowly.
• High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended for vehicle travel beyond the Cabin District.
• Road conditions can change dramatically during wet weather.
• Check at the Welcome Station or our Current Conditions webpage for road updates.
• The Backcountry Vehicle Route is seasonal and requires a backcountry vehicle pass.
