Valles Caldera National Preserve is filled with awe-inspiring scenery, abundant wildlife, and cultural wonders that can enrich the visitor's experience and understanding of this recovering landscape. Please note that Valles Caldera is still a new unit of the National Park Service, so many points of interest are currently unmarked. The best way to ensure you won't miss anything is to download the National Park Service smartphone app, search for Valles Caldera National Preserve, and save the park's data for offline use before you arrive.

Upon arrival, stop at the Welcome Station to pay your entrance fee, find park information, and shop the park store. Rangers and volunteers are available here to help you plan your visit and answer questions.

All visitors may drive as far as the Cabin District and Volcano Discovery Center, about 4 miles from the park's main entrance on New Mexico State Route 4. Beyond that point, the road enters Valles Caldera's backcountry and requires a daily vehicle pass. Explore some of Valles Caldera's most popular places in the listing below!
