President Donald Trump planted a descendant sapling of the Andrew Jackson Commemorative Southern Magnolia on April 8, 2025. Dale Haney, Superintendent of White House Grounds and Executive Residence, assisted with the planting. The twelve-year-old magnolia sapling was grown off-site at a National Park Service greenhouse as a replacement tree for the iconic ‘Jackson Magnolia’ which was well over 150 years old. The removed tree was one of the oldest trees on the White House Grounds and was taken down on April 7, 2025, because it had become a safety hazard.

This new tree honors the tradition of the ‘Jackson Magnolia’ and commemorates both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who have a deep interest in the history and care of the White House Grounds.
