Outdoor Activities

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is open to recreation year-round including hiking, bike and horseback riding. Rollerblades, skateboards, and other simillar modes of transport are prohibited. Parking is available in the Visitor Center and at each of the eight interpretive stops on the tour road.

Self-Guided Driving or Walking Tour

The Ray House

Depending on staff and volunteer availability, the Ray House at Stop 2 is open intermittently between March 1st and November 30th. To check the schedule for the Ray House prior to your visit, please call the park at (417) 732-2662.

Trails for walking, hiking, and horseback riding

  • Five walking paths are accessible from the tour road and vary in length from 1/4 to 2.5 miles (one-way). These trails can be combined for a longer walk.
  • A 7-mile trail system for horseback riding and hiking is accessible from the Tour Road. Parking for horse trailers is south of Stop 2. Note that riding horses on the Tour Road is prohibited.
  • Printed trail maps are available in the visitor center.
