Park Closure
Loop Road Closed to All Vehicles
The Loop Road remains CLOSED to all vehicles as of 4/5/25--many icy patches persist at 6,000 ft. The park can still be accessed by foot. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are unadvised, as long stretches of dry pavement may damage snow sport equipment.All Caves are Closed
Due to snow, Indian Tunnel and Dewdrop Cave are CLOSED. Caves typically open for the season in June.

Please do not rely upon GPS digital navigation systems to find your way to Craters of the Moon. Please note that the Visitor Center at 1266 Craters Loop Road is located just off U.S. Highway 20/26/93 and is not accessed via any unpaved roads.more

Campground Open with Limited Services
The campground is open for winter camping. The water is shut off for the season and campers must plan accordingly. Comfort stations are closed and inaccessible. Vault toilets remain available. Campers must walk, bike, or snowshoe in to access campground. more
Visitor Center and Bookstore are Open

Pit toilets are available 24 hours, but there are no hookups and water is off for the season. Campers must walk, ski, or snowshoe in to access campground. A free permit from the visitor center is required to snow camp. Lava Tube Caves are Closed, Permit Required when OpenIndian Tunnel and Dewdrop Cave, both located at the Caves Area, are closed due to snow. When they are open, a free cave permit is required to enter the caves. Cave permits protect bats. Permits can only be obtained in person at the visitor center during business hours. All other caves in the park are closed. ClosuresBuffalo Caves, Boy Scout Cave, and Beauty Cave are permanently closed.
