Learn About the Park

The Green Springs National Historic Landmark District in Virginia’s Piedmont offers a continuum of rural architecture and landscapes in original context with minimal alteration. Farms and buildings, many predating the Civil War and connected to one another visually and through family relationships of early occupants, are preserved.

The land and buildings within the Landmark District are privately owned. Many of the property owners have conveyed conservation easements to protect the historic scene. The Department of the Interior holds a number of those easements, and the National Park Service is responsible for managing those. Other organizations and entities hold conservation easements over other properties in the Landmark District.

The National Park Service does not itself own or operate public facilities in the Landmark District, which, however, may be visited via the public thoroughfares crossing it.
