Independence Square Buildings

The buildings in the Independence Square security area include Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and the Great Essentials Exhibit in the West Wing. Access to the Square is through a security entrance located on the south side of Independence Hall. Visitors can access the security entrance using the stairs or accessibility ramp on 5th Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets. Security screening closes at least 15 minutes prior to the building closing times.

Independence Hall

• 9 am–9:50 am, self-guided - no tickets required (due to building capacity limitations, not all visitors are guaranteed entry)
• 10:00 am–4:00 pm, guided tours every 20 minutes, tickets required
• 4:20 pm, 40 minute extended tour, tickets required

• 9:15 am–4:15, programs every 30 minutes. Final program begins at 4:15 pm. All programs are first-floor only.

Franklin Court Buildings

The Franklin Court complex includes the Benjamin Franklin Museum, the Franklin Court Printing Office & Bindery, the Fragments of Franklin Court Archeological Exhibit, the B. Free Franklin branch of the U.S. Post Office, and the Benjamin Franklin Museum Store.

• Open daily 9 am–5 pm

Franklin Court Printing Office & Bindery

• Open Saturday and Sunday 10 am–5 pm. Last printing demonstration at 4:30 pm.

B. Free Franklin branch of the U.S. Post Office

• Open Monday thru Saturday 9 am–12:45 pm and 2 pm–5 pm (staffing permitting)

Benjamin Franklin Museum Store

• Open daily 9 am–5 pm
