Operating Hours & Seasons

Lassen Volcanic National Park is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. You do not need a reservation to enter the park.

Typical Operating Months

Roads

All park roads will close with the onset of winter snow. They reopen after snow melts or is cleared in late spring or early summer.

Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway (Hwy 89): June - October

Butte Lake Road: June - October

Juniper Valley Road: June - October

Warner Valley Road: June - October

Visitor Centers

Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center: Year-round; limited hours in winter

Loomis Museum: Memorial Day Weekend to October; limited hours in Fall

Campgrounds

*includes a few weeks of dry-camping (no running water) in fall

Southwest Walk-in Campground: Year-Round

Summit Lake South: Late June to late September*

Summit Lake North: late June to early September

Lost Creek Group: mid-June to mid-September

Manzanita Lake: mid-June to early November*

Butte Lake Campground: June to October*

Juniper Lake Campground: June to October

Warner Valley Campground: June to October

Visiting in Winter

Winter is a season of snow and solitude. Vehicle access is limited, but over-the-snow adventure is seemingly endless.
