NPS Photo / Heather Allor The Round Spring area is home to a campground, picnic area, cave, river access, and the spring from which it takes its name. Round Spring was a Missouri State Park from 1924 until 1970, when it was donated to the National Park Service. Round SpringThe spring itself is some 55 feet deep, rising in a nearly circular pool of water before flowing under a natural bridge to join the Current River. On an average day, some 26 million gallons of water flow from the spring. At quiet times, otters, wood ducks, and great blue herons may be seen in the spring. Note that people and pets are prohibited from swimming or wading in the spring or spring branch. Visitors can enjoy the accessible paved trail to the spring at any time. Picnic AreaTables with grills are located around the spring. There are two shelters, the one closest to the parking lot may be reserved by visiting www.recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777. The other, older shelter is available on a first come, first served basis. Round Spring CampgroundCampsites at Round Spring are suitable for tents or RVs. There are a small number of electric hook-up sites, but no water hook-ups. A dump station is also available. Reservations are required to camp here - visit www.recreation.gov or call (877) 444-6777 for booking. Park rangers present evening programs at the amphitheater through the summer months.
