Your Park Fees at Work: Enhancing Visitor Experiences

Thanks to the National Park Service’s Fee Demonstration Program, Redwood National and State Parks have been able to improve visitor experiences through new interpretive exhibits.

  • In 2005, funds from this program supported the installation of new interior exhibits at the Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center, helping visitors from around the world better understand watersheds and cultural connections.
  • That same year, 24 outdoor exhibits were added along park trails and roadways, enriching the experience for hikers and drivers alike.

How the Fee Program Works

Established by Congress in 1997, the program allows 80% of the fees collected at a national park site to stay within that park. Parks that do not collect entrance fees, like Redwood, compete for the remaining 20% to fund important projects.

These exhibits are just one example of how visitor fees directly contribute to preserving and enhancing the park for everyone. Your support makes a difference!
