Planning Your Visit: Hours, Conditions & Directions

Park Hours & Seasonal Operations

Redwood National and State Parks are open year-round, offering endless opportunities to explore. However, visitor centers and campgrounds operate on seasonal schedules. Before your visit, check the park’s website or contact a visitor center for the latest hours and availability.

Weather & Seasonal Conditions

The climate in the redwoods can vary depending on the season and location within the park:

  • Summer: Expect cool coastal temperatures with frequent moist fog, which helps sustain the towering redwoods. Inland areas are typically mild to warm with clearer skies.
  • Winter: Temperatures remain cool, with heavy rainfall along the coast. Be prepared for wet conditions, especially on trails.

The coastal redwood region maintains a steady temperature range of 40–60°F year-round. For the most up-to-date weather conditions, call (707) 443-7062 or check in at a visitor center. Check our Conditions page for more information.

Navigation Tips: Finding Your Way in the Parks

Due to limited cell service and inaccurate GPS directions, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for reliable navigation.

For the best experience:

  • Use official park maps, available at visitor centers and on the park’s website.
  • Rely on road signs within the park rather than GPS apps, which may misdirect you.
  • Carry a physical map, especially if venturing into remote areas.

Taking these steps will help ensure a smooth and stress-free visit to the redwoods.
