Skinners Falls DEC River Access Closure & Notice to Avoid Water Recreation Under and Around Skinners Falls-Milanville Bridge

The Skinners Falls DEC River Access is closed to the public due to work PennDOT is doing on the Skinners Falls-Milanville Bridge.

Instead, it is recommended to get off the river at the Damascus River Access. River users can launch from either the Narrowsburg River Access or Darbytown River Access.

River users are also strongly encouraged to avoid paddling, boating, floating, tubing, swimming, wading, and recreating under and around the Skinners Falls-Milanville Bridge due to the bridge work.

PennDOT is removing loose bridge components and starting November 18, 2024 will install warning signage, buoys, and protective netting around the bridge to restrict water recreational activity under the bridge for the safety of the general public.

You can read the original PennDOT news release on the PennDOT website.

A partial river closure is in effect at the Interstate Bridge No. 7 at Callicoon, NY due to the construction of a partial causeway extending into the main channel of the river. The causeway has been temporarily installed as part of the work being done by NY DOT for rehabilitation of the bridge.

Please use caution when navigating this area. Be aware of restricted access and potentially hazardous conditions.

Cold Water Mandatory Life Jacket Wear

Between November 1 through April 30, life jackets are required to be worn by everyone on the river due to the risk of cold water shock. This applies to everyone, regardless of age, in a boat, canoe, kayak, or aquatic or inflatable vessel.

When water temperatures are less than 70 degrees, cold water shock is a major factor in boating fatalities and happens quickly when someone is suddenly immersed in cold water. The water does not have to be freezing; cold water shock often occurs in water temperatures above 50 degrees.Wearing a life jacket in these conditions greatly increases the chance of survival and saves lives by providing insulation from the cold, buoyancy, and reduced risk of water inhalation.
