Monument is located outside of Vicksburg National Military Park on former park property in the City of Vicksburg, on Hall's Ferry Road at (north) Illinois Circle midway between Interstate 20 and Confederate Avenue. This unit was attached to Col.s George E. Bryant & Amory K. Johnson's (assumed command 9 June 1863) 3rd Brigade of Brig. Gen. Jacob G. Lauman's 4th Division, Maj. Gen. Cadwallader C. Washburn's XVI Army Corps (Detachment) and was commanded by Col. John Logan and Lt. Col. William Hunter. The regiment entered the campaign at Young's Point, LA about 15 May 1863, moved to Grand Gulf, MS on 18 May 1863, marched from there about 11 June 1863 to take position on the Vicksburg investment line. On or about 27 June 1863 the 32nd Illinois marched to Warrenton, MS and remained there until the end of the siege. [Refer to page 149, Volume I of the WPA Monumentation Survey Books.]
