Weather

Check current weather conditions before visiting. Salinas Pueblo Missions NM is at an elevation of 6100-6500 ft (1860-1980 m) in an arid climate. Average annual rainfall is about 15 inches. Winters can be cold and snowy. Summer highs are above 90°F/32°C with cool evenings. The months of June-September often have thunderstorms which may cause flash flooding in the area. Abó is especially prone to road closures as a result. Spring highs average 75°F/24°C. Fall temperatures are a little cooler. High winds often occur, which may result in trail closures.

Wear appropriate clothing for the season and sturdy walking shoes.Potable water is not always available at all of the sites, so bring plenty of drinking water.

Elevation

The elevation at our 3 sites is between 6,100 ft and 6,500 ft and can cause breathing difficulties for some people visiting from lower elevations.

Wildlife

Hikers should be aware of the danger posed by wildlife. Enjoy the view but don't get too close. Don't harrass the wildlife, this is their home! Don't feed the wildlife as fed wildlife is more likely to pose a threat to humans.
